Dog owners who cannot seem to manage their dogs around the house tend to give up these poor animals to shelter homes. As much as this is not an easy thing to do, owners have no choice but to act on it right away. However, by giving your dog proper house training, you get to avoid this scenario. A house trained dog is a good advantage to have around the house with all the security your dog can offer.   Puppy training at home does not have to be a hard thing to do.

One thing that you should teach your puppy to do is potty training. Training a puppy should be done slowly so do not expect your dog to learn right away. Patiently train your dog around the house and do not rush things if you truly want your dog to learn.

Start training your puppy when he hits six months old. This is because puppies at this age already have control of their bladder when you start the potty training. This is a very important part of house training.

If you are going out, leave your puppy in a small room with papers covering the floor so just in case the cute thing does its thing, your floor is entirely protected, and cleaning up becomes an easy task. When you leave your puppy in a room, be sure your pet is safe inside. Take away things that might injure, poison, or choke your pup. It is okay if your pet chews on the paper since this is normal, and do not punish him for this.

Paper Training

Start training your puppy by leaving him in a part of your house where you can let him play. If the puppy feels like defecating, he will move and sniff and make that certain place his preferred “toilet.” If you see that your puppy is not missing the spot, then you can opt to place papers on that right spot of the floor. In case the puppy misses, it means he is not actually settled yet in finding that perfect place as his preferred “toilet”. As the owner, you just have to keep up until your puppy is comfortable already.

For owners who do spend time with their puppies, make it a habit to introduce a toilet area to your puppy every 45 minutes for the habit to sink in eventually. Always praise your puppy by giving him a treat or rewarding him with food or a toy for doing the right thing.
